28 Days Later

I finally gave this movie a chance. And you know what? I was impressed. It's generally filed under "horror", but don't be fooled: this is a quality movie. Danny Boyle gives us his best version of a doomsday virus scenario for jolly old England. Seriously, this movie is very good. Camera work and effects are top notch. Fast-moving-zombies? No. A virus. "Rage" virus. Spectacular flick.

I remember enjoying this years ago, I will have to burn/buy it, and then see its sequel, which I believe was NOT directed by Danny Boyle.

For some reason I had the impression that the sequel was pointless and got relatively negative reviews, but it got generally positive reviews, and The New York Times wrote that "28 Weeks Later is brutal and almost exhaustingly terrifying. It is also bracingly smart, both in its ideas and in its techniques" as well as "best horror film of the year".

While NY Times film reviews can come across as pretentious and overly technical, to give such a claim to a sequel, and a mainstream action/horror film bodes positive Netflix tidings.

Yeah I'd heard similar things about 28 Weeks Later, but it's high up on my "to watch" list. I usually like the NY Times reviews because they're thorough (but yes, pretentious). Looking forward to seeing it.
